- Gentlemen,

Now that we have been thoroughly persuaded to put pursuit of bigger game on hiatus, I wondered if you would be willing to assist me with a small side project I've been tending to the last month or two.

I find myself dissatisfied with the number of branches on the Lestrange Tapestry. You both know that the Missus and I wanted more children than the two we have, but fate made mockery of our efforts. No more can be done for that, but the longer I look at the truncation beneath Raz's name, the more I wonder how it was that he never once impregnated a single witch. His appetite for female company was legendary, and yet he left no heirs behind. Unless there is one or more that we don't know of. I aim to discover just that.

While I cannot say I relish sorting through my dead brother's various liaisons, it's a necessary task. I have already accounted for the notable relationships, but the many flings, one-nighters, and prostitutes must be accounted for, as well. Raz wasn't the sort to shag and tell if he could help it, but women do talk, and gossip will out.

May I send both a copy of the list I am compiling? If you know of any other names that should be added, please make adjustments as needed. Barty, I know that you and he visited Pseudonymity several times. And then there are those mysterious years in the 80s when he was frequenting Borough Market on the regular. Though I prefer he not have sprogged up some wayward Halfblood, I intend this investigation to be thorough, no matter the outcome.

I was in my workshop when I became distracted by a chiming noise upstairs. I investigated, and there it was, on the tapestry:

Rabastan Lestrange
26 May 1958 - 7 June 1997

Being 40 isn't so bad; you needn't have gone so out of your way to avoid it. After so many near-misses, people will be disappointed to learn that you did not, in fact, possess nine lives.

I know I am disappointed.

Though not in you. And I should have said it more often, brother.

- Lana, should your weekend allow you respite from your other duties, I'm in my workshop at Le'Strange and could use the assistance of my former artefacts protégé.

I can tell you a bit about the items, should you need convincing that the visit is worth your time. One is undoubtedly remarkable, truly one-of-a-kind (words I would never use carelessly). The other appears rather unremarkable, given its state, but I anticipate that its appearance is highly deceiving.

Would you like to know more?
alt_rodolphus: (level)
- Narcissa, hello. It didn't miss my eye that you wrote to Hydra.

Tell me, how is she doing?

As much as I would like to inquire after her myself, Bella's definition of "interference" has become so tight that I'm keeping my quill to myself, for now.

To give you an idea of what I mean: I'm ensconced in my workshop at Le'Strange and am to be nowhere near St. James during the school hols. Not until I've proven my absolute trust in Bella's authority over our daughter.

And while it would be rather diverting to test the limits Bella's rules, I've only just recovered from the last time.
alt_rodolphus: (down)
- Hydra,

I am aware of the exchange that took place today between you, your mother, and your Professors. Lest you consider appealing to me for an intervention, I must tell you that your mother and I are united in this matter.

I gave you a chance to mind the guidelines I put forth. I trusted you to put your trust in my judgement, and to respect the bond between us, but you have shown yourself lacking the same faith in me as I had in you. And for that, you must stand up and face these consequences on your own.

As for the boy - should he cross the line again, he will meet my wand on the other side. This time, there will be no mercy.

I'm sorry I regret it's come to this, Duckie. Be well and on your way.
alt_rodolphus: (not far)
- Narcissa,

My apologies for interrupting you on holiday.

A situation with my daughter has come to light, and I may need your assistance in the matter. For reasons you may discern, I prefer not to summon Bella to St James for her input. She'd likely only see it as a offence to her work, anyway.

Might I persuade you to steal away for a moment?
alt_rodolphus: (ready)
You.

Both drop what you're doing and come to my workshop at St James. Now. At once.
alt_rodolphus: (ready)
I've just received news that I sincerely hope is not true, brother.

If it is, I've a very special plaque with Dolores' name on it. Just say when and where you want it hanged.
alt_rodolphus: (higher)
Duckie,

Did you need me for something? An elf has just told me that you've been lingering outside my workshop for some time. You need only say the word, you know.

And - I've just looked at the clock and seen I've missed supper. A date for hot cocoa before bed, instead?
alt_rodolphus: (higher)
Brother -

We've lingered long enough. If you don't rest and sleep soon, I can hardly imagine what the consequences will be.

Let the others carry on with the clean up.
alt_rodolphus: (above)
Very quickly.

You'll hear rumblings about it soon enough: the IMA is kicking up their heels as I write this. Your Mother's been there for days, and now I've been summoned, as well. Things may get sticky, but have faith: your parents have been up against and through much worse.

See you soon-
Your old Dad

Duckie,

I am so very sorry that I didn't have time to say more than Hello to you on Saturday. I had planned on bidding you farewell after we completed our scrub of Toshenka's storage, but my good mates thought it best that I depart without seeing you, and "sleep on it," as they say, before approaching you with what is, admittedly, a sensitive matter.

Now. Is there anything you need to tell me about your relationship with Mr Finch-Fletchley?
alt_rodolphus: (level)
Brother, you ought to have sent me these logs earlier. I can't say I like the progression I see here.

Very minimal frequency previous to June 12. It appears as if your attempt to avoid "triggers" was helping.

And then, what's this on July 12? All you've written is 10. So it lasted ten hours? Is that the longest yet?
alt_rodolphus: (above)
I'm at Le'Strange, since you've seen fit to ward me out of St. James.

I don't know what it is you think that you're doing, but this cannot stand. To legilimise Hydra without my knowledge or consent - no, I won't endure it. And I believe we spoke at length in October about your involving her in any aspect of casual investigation. If you have reason to suspect the Ponds in anything, then you open a case file on them with MLE and take the usual avenues. You don't send in your daughter for tea and then try to rummage through her mind for some trifling thing you can hold against them.

Another matter: I hope you know that the distance between us tonight did not go unnoticed by the other guests. It is one thing to make it clear to me that you no longer care for my feelings, or your daughter's, but to make it so evident to our friends and family, as well...

You test my patience, Bella. And if your pattern of the last year or so holds, I know better than to hold my breath and wait for a reason to forgive you.
alt_rodolphus: (closer)
Brother, I need you to search the castle and find Hydra at once.

I have reason to believe that... she may have been put in harm's way.
alt_rodolphus: (reverse)
Narcissa - If you're available for tea today or tomorrow, your nephew has a perfectly remarkable toy he would love to show his Auntie.

Just in time, too.
alt_rodolphus: (level)
I have heard that congratulations are in good order, Miss Sandoval.

I hope that we can meet for tea at Le'Strange soon, and that you can tell me of your plans.
alt_rodolphus: (forward)
- Raz, when you have a moment today:

How are the headaches? Remember to chart frequency and duration, so healers can provide best course of treatment.

Been sipping a brew of cacao infused with cardamom and ginger, myself. Close vicinity Dementor exposure yesterday; more of an impact than expected.

And thus why I must talk to you about a project.
alt_rodolphus: (Default)
- Lana, how are you? It has been a memorable week.

The delight of having Barty back, after committing ourselves to the full devastation of his death, is rather a shock to the system. One can hardly tell head from feet in such turmoil.

I hope that you are sufficiently recovered, and not suffering any lingering distress. Or doubt.
alt_rodolphus: (Default)
- Lana, are you as abuzz with excitement over the QWC as the rest of our Protectorate? I admit that I've never followed Quidditch with the fanatic passion of one like my brother, but truly, this is an event worth working up some excitement for.

But for the real reason I wrote: How are you fairing with Mustinal and his arcana? I wish I could have better prepared you for whatever it is you might be facing, but in truth I do not know the man well. He's always been somewhat reclusive and protective of his art (this coming from me). I'm almost surprised that he made himself available for the Intensive, but I suppose he's put it off long enough that someone finally tightened the screws.

Tell me how you are doing. My work goes apace as usual, though I find myself missing the company I once kept.
