- Narcissa, hello. It didn't miss my eye that you wrote to Hydra.

Tell me, how is she doing?

As much as I would like to inquire after her myself, Bella's definition of "interference" has become so tight that I'm keeping my quill to myself, for now.

To give you an idea of what I mean: I'm ensconced in my workshop at Le'Strange and am to be nowhere near St. James during the school hols. Not until I've proven my absolute trust in Bella's authority over our daughter.

And while it would be rather diverting to test the limits Bella's rules, I've only just recovered from the last time.

- Hydra,

I am aware of the exchange that took place today between you, your mother, and your Professors. Lest you consider appealing to me for an intervention, I must tell you that your mother and I are united in this matter.

I gave you a chance to mind the guidelines I put forth. I trusted you to put your trust in my judgement, and to respect the bond between us, but you have shown yourself lacking the same faith in me as I had in you. And for that, you must stand up and face these consequences on your own.

As for the boy - should he cross the line again, he will meet my wand on the other side. This time, there will be no mercy.

I'm sorry I regret it's come to this, Duckie. Be well and on your way.
alt_rodolphus: (not far)
- Narcissa,

My apologies for interrupting you on holiday.

A situation with my daughter has come to light, and I may need your assistance in the matter. For reasons you may discern, I prefer not to summon Bella to St James for her input. She'd likely only see it as a offence to her work, anyway.

Might I persuade you to steal away for a moment?
alt_rodolphus: (higher)
Duckie,

Did you need me for something? An elf has just told me that you've been lingering outside my workshop for some time. You need only say the word, you know.

And - I've just looked at the clock and seen I've missed supper. A date for hot cocoa before bed, instead?
alt_rodolphus: (above)
Very quickly.

You'll hear rumblings about it soon enough: the IMA is kicking up their heels as I write this. Your Mother's been there for days, and now I've been summoned, as well. Things may get sticky, but have faith: your parents have been up against and through much worse.

See you soon-
Your old Dad

Duckie,

I am so very sorry that I didn't have time to say more than Hello to you on Saturday. I had planned on bidding you farewell after we completed our scrub of Toshenka's storage, but my good mates thought it best that I depart without seeing you, and "sleep on it," as they say, before approaching you with what is, admittedly, a sensitive matter.

Now. Is there anything you need to tell me about your relationship with Mr Finch-Fletchley?
alt_rodolphus: (above)
I'm at Le'Strange, since you've seen fit to ward me out of St. James.

I don't know what it is you think that you're doing, but this cannot stand. To legilimise Hydra without my knowledge or consent - no, I won't endure it. And I believe we spoke at length in October about your involving her in any aspect of casual investigation. If you have reason to suspect the Ponds in anything, then you open a case file on them with MLE and take the usual avenues. You don't send in your daughter for tea and then try to rummage through her mind for some trifling thing you can hold against them.

Another matter: I hope you know that the distance between us tonight did not go unnoticed by the other guests. It is one thing to make it clear to me that you no longer care for my feelings, or your daughter's, but to make it so evident to our friends and family, as well...

You test my patience, Bella. And if your pattern of the last year or so holds, I know better than to hold my breath and wait for a reason to forgive you.

Brother, I need you to search the castle and find Hydra at once.

I have reason to believe that... she may have been put in harm's way.
alt_rodolphus: (Default)
Narcissa - I imagine that you're not getting Draco back as soon as you had hoped, as he no doubt has been chosen to continue on for the cadet programme screening. That being the case, would you be interested in having your nephew (and his nanny, of course) visit for a few days? I'm trying to balance both Hydra and work here, and find myself guilty of keeping Rigel with Mrs Baylock too often.

Please don't feel that you must say yes. I was planning to ask Druella next.

Ladies,

After speaking with her Head of House on the matter, I've decided that it's best Hydra come home from school early so that I can begin a resistance regimen with her at once. With your permission, Headmistress, I will be picking her up early Monday morning.

Matron: Hydra should have received enough food packages to last her through the weekend. I've told her to visit you, though, if she should happen to feel weak or faint.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

As you know, I was in the castle this to afternoon check in on my brother and take a meal with my daughter, and to verify whether or not she is moving on at reasonable pace from the ordeal she suffered last week.

Time constraints prevented me from addressing the matter with you in person, for I could not stay at Hogwarts for long, so I use this journal to ask you this: do your cavity treatment programs typically involve such measures?

As I have received a number of Private Messages on the matter, I feel it best to make a brief public announcement about the state of my brother and daughter.

Rabastan is convalescing in Hogwarts hospital wing; we see no reason to transfer him to St. Mungos at this time, as to do so will undoubtedly cause him pain and may worsen his condition. With proper care he should make a full recovery with no long-term curse damage, though it will take a some time for the paralysis to retreat and for his vision to return.

My daughter has been treated for minor injuries, but is otherwise fine. She has already been questioned by MLE about her role in the incident.

Please tell me that these messages between you, Barty, Truncheon, Hopkirk, etc, are all a sign that the net is closing.

And please do watch yourself. It could just as easily be a threat to you as it is to Hydra.

I saw that Duckie wrote, asking to come by your office for tea. Did she come by? What happened?

The Missus was asking my opinion on Christmas gifts for her during our firechat this morning, so I think the freeze might soon be coming to an end. It's still plenty chilly, though, and Hydra's letters scarcely have enough lines to read between.

Those two are more alike that they realise - both are secretive as the grave.

- Quite the rabble. First curious news is that of Amycus Carrow's arrest. News is incomplete on my end, since the Missus has been indisposed of late - on missions of which I dare not breathe a word - but if I am understanding, the thought here is that Carrow went so far as to render his own mudblood, and others', as completely un-usable? I do find that logic hard to follow. Say what you will, but the man has dedicated much time to discovering an array of uses for that end of the populace.

- Head Girl Sandoval: I have completed my analysis of Item #702, also known as your earrings. With Owls back in the air I will have the official report off soon, but as it's very official indeed, allow me to translate by telling you here that your earrings were adorned by a male who injested polyjuice potion in order to transform himself into a female: into you, specifically. I shall leave it to you to speculate on who would want to do such a thing, and why. The earrings are now perfectly safe to wear, however, and very pretty baubles they are.

- Duckie, you should have got an Owl by now. Make sure that the surprise I tucked into the envelope lasts a few days, but know that there's more where that came from. As soon as we're allowed to send parcels you'll get a load of sweets to rival that of the hamper your Auntie Narcissa sends to Draco. That way, he won't have to worry about you nicking all the nicest things to satisfy your sugar tooth.

- Boys still get up to as much trouble as ever, I see. Is this what I have to look forward to when my youngest is near to thirteen? I suppose so. Best to have a stiff drink now.

- Today worked on Item #677, sent in by Joseph Hegarty of Alderley Edge, Cheshire. The specimen is a wrist cuff (12 cm circumference, 1 cm thickness) of pewter, set with four stones of mineraloid gel (colloquially know as opal). Water content of mineraloid is 15 percent, rather high, and the colour is variable, verging on reds and magentas. Hegarty received the cuff as a gift for his 50th birthday and claims to have experienced severe gout ever since. Folklore still holds a suspicious eye to opals, but I detect more anomalies in the pewter. Hegarty doesn't want the item back, so it goes into the personal collection. Not sure if it's worth further study.

- Breakfast with the Missus, who reminded this one of book and quill, seemingly untouched until this moment. Have in fact been reading with what one might call fervour. So many fascinating observations to make, were one so inclined. Clearly a good medium for social chit-chat, too, if one fancies such a thing. I myself do not, generally, but the distance between self and small daughter inspires a more proactive approach. Owls have their uses, but ours are so overworked as is.

- Son, even smaller than aforementioned daughter, is doing well, but runs the house ragged with his new sleeping schedule. May need to hire Mrs Baylock an assistant of her own, should it continue.

- Been pissing rain off and on all day. Afternoon tea was a wash. No matter as now I've the mood for something stronger.
